Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, which means “bond of protection” is a Hindu festival celebrated on full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Shravana, which usually falls in Gregorian calendar month of August. It is also simply called Rakhi and observed in many parts of the Indian subcontinent, mainly India and Nepal.
The Rakhi festival celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters.
On Raksha Bandhan day, Indian sisters ties a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother’s wrist with a prayer for his prosperity and happiness and this symbolizes the sister’s love. The brother in return gives her a token gift and a promise to protect her. Read More about Rakhi on Wiki
